Why Financial Literacy Matters and What are the Consequences
of Not Having These Literacy Skills?

During the last five-year period, the Gen-irators, as secondary school researchers of the Think To DO Institute, have produced several reports. It consists of all aspects of the school systems ranked in the top 10 and top 6 countries of the world. Topics included mental health, social trends, curriculum offerings,  and transportation.

As a result of this meta research, the Gen-irators selected specific topics from that research to perform more in-depth research white papers. One of those topics of interest was the widespread adoption of Financial Literacy as part of the school curriculum. The advantages to the overall development of the whole person were of great interest and the topics of much discussion by the local secondary-school researchers. As they were comparing the best practices of school systems in other countries to implement the 21st Century Skills and the importance of not only academic but social and emotional development, the topic and importances of Financial Literacy seems to be a very relevant topic for further research. As a result, the following research questions were formulated.

  • Why does financial literacy matter and what are the Consequences of not having these literacy skills?

How do the government and employers help a person save for the future, and how can one plan for retirement in Curaçao?
